Tre Lowe shutout the Lions as Bob Robison takes home the playoff MVP.

California, PA- Winning a championship is never an easy task let alone winning back-to-back championships.  Earlier this afternoon behind a shutout performance from goaltender Tre Lowe the Vulcans did just that.  Today’s championship victory marked the Vulcans third straight and 10th overall.  What is most impressive is that this championship also marks the Vulcans 10th in the past 11 seasons.

The quest began on Friday when the Vulcans faced West Virginia University for the third time in a month.  For the Vulcans, the Mountaineers were no match yet again in a 7-1 rout.  Bob Robison led the way recording a hat trick helping the Vulcans open up a 5-0 lead.  In net Ryan Lloyd would stifle the Mountaineers lineup for the second Friday in a row stopping 26 of 27 shots faced.

Standing in-between the Vulcans and their elusive 10th championship were the Penn State Behrend Lions.  Saturdays title match would be the first playoff contest between the Vulcans and Lions since the 2008-09 season.

Both teams skated to a scoreless opening period as the Lions showed no fatigue from their late evening victory on Friday.  Coming out for the second period the Vulcans drew first blood when Jordan Lockhart found the back of the net at the 1:37 mark of the second period.  The Lions continued their assault offensively throughout the second period taking a 15-6 advantage for that twenty minutes.

With 11:26 remaining in the third period the Vulcans added a second goal from Brett Young to open up a 2-0 lead.  Continuing to fight the Lions pulled their netminder with 1:05 remaining in regulation only to see Chris Schmitt add an empty net goal to secure the Vulcans 10th CHE Championship.

On the afternoon Lowe stopped all 35 shots faced while Bob Robison won his second straight CHE Playoff MVP with three goals and two assists on the weekend.  The victory marks the first CHE title under new Head Coach Jason Greenway and concludes the Vulcans season with a 20-4-2-1 record.
