Women Face Mercyhurst in Regular Season Finale
THE GAME: #7 California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans (9-4-1, 5-3) vs #3 Mercyhurst University Lakers (14-6, 6-2)
DATE/LOCATION/TIME: February 14, 2020 ~ Rostraver Ice Garden ~ 9:45 p.m. ~ February 15, 2020 ~ Rostraver Ice Garden ~ 4:15 p.m.
CHE SOUTH DIVISION: The Vulcans and Lakers will meet this weekend with the CHE South Division on the line. Currently sitting in the second, the Vulcans will look to flip the script from last weekend when the team fell twice to Liberty (5-0 and 6-0). The Lakers enter this weekend having most recently picked up victories over RIT (5-1) and Pitt (4-0).
ACHA LEADERS AND VULCANS MILESTONES: This season has been a special year for a few Vulcans. Currently Jayda Mears is fourth in points in Division II and second in goals scored. As for Vulcans milestones, Mears is on pace for the second best offensive season since 2008-09 when Tiffany Juha recorded 79 points and 49 goals. She is also four goals from 100 in her career. Katelyn Hill is also on pace for a Vulcans record with the best season save percentage which is currently set at 92.9% by Maria Sciacca and to date Hill is at 93.7%
ACHA SOUTHEAST REGION RANKINGS AS OF FEBRUARY 6TH:
- Rowan University
- Liberty University
- Mercyhurst University
- University of Delaware
- United States Naval Academy
- University at Buffalo
- California University of PA
- University of Pittsburgh
The top four teams from each region receive invitations to the 2020 ACHA Division II National Championships in Frisco, Texas this March. An automatic bid is reserved for the top team from the College Hockey East.
With the season coming to the final stretch, the Vulcans only have a few opportunities left to climb into the top four. After this weekend’s two games with Mercyhurst the only other chance available to the Vulcans will be the CHE playoffs.
