OVERVIEW:  The Vulcans enter this contest after suffering back-to-back weekends of defeats again Liberty and Mercyhurst only scoring two goals combined in the four contests.  They’ll start the playoffs against Navy, a team that defeated the Vulcans back in November 5-4 with a winning goal coming with under a minute left in regulation.

Should the Vulcans defeat Navy and move forward they’ll be looking mostly at teams that they have yet to defeat this season.  Of the other four teams the only one the Vulcans have secured a victory over this season is the University of Delaware (3-2) back in the season opener.  The Vulcans faced Buffalo in their second game of the season and fell 5-4.  As earlier noted the Vulcans most recently dropped two games each to Liberty and Mercyhurst.  Counting the playoffs the Vulcans will have managed to play all these contests at the Rostraver Ice Garden except the victory over Delaware which came on the road.

These playoffs are the first for the Vulcans since the program returned in 2017-18.  Prior to that the Vulcans have twice won the CHE.  In 2014 they defeated Penn State University in the title game and went for a repeat in 2015, although there were no playoffs that year it was the regular season champion that won the league.  When the Vulcans have participated in the CHE playoffs they have always made the title game, even in 2016 when they lost to West Chester.
