THE MATCHUP

  • The Vulcans enter this weekend, coming off a disappointing weekend that saw them drop both contests against West Virginia University (ACHA-II) and Kent State University.
  • With five games still remaining, the Vulcans are still positioning themselves somewhere between third and sixth place in the College Hockey East (CHE) playoffs. A strong weekend will go a long way towards keeping themselves closer to third.

LET'S TAKE A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEKEND

  • The Vulcans and Mountaineers kept it close early in the contest. While the Mountaineers struck first, the Vulcans answered quickly to tie the contest, with Tanner Kalmanir finding the back of the net.
  • In the second and third periods, the Vulcans would fall victim to their season-long struggles giving up two power play goals to the Mountaineers, ultimately falling 4-1.
  • Against the Golden Flashes, the Vulcans fell behind early and could not work their way back from the deficit. It began with a season struggle again as the Vulcans gave up a short-handed goal to the Golden Flashes in the first period.
  • In the second period, it was Kent State that struck first; however, the Vulcans answered when Tony Manuel made it 2-1. Before the intermission, the lead would be extended again as Kent State added one more.
  • In the third period, the Vulcans would receive a second goal from Mike Vasko with just over one minute left in the contest; however, it proved to be too late as the Golden Flashes already had a 4-1 lead at the time.

LAST TIME OUT WITH THE CRIMSON HAWKS

  • Manuel scored the game-winner in overtime, just seven seconds into the extra period, recording one of his three game-winning goals this season. The Vulcans also received goals from Emery Anden and Matt Lucido.
  • For the Crimson Hawks their offense was led by Robert Lichenstein and Nathan Mellott, each recording a goal.

LAST TIME OUT WITH THE SPARTANS

WHERE IS THE GAME?

  • Home, away, or neutral? The Vulcans have played games on ice of all formats, however, some more than others.
  • The Vulcans have played 15 road contests, five home, and three neutral contests. Four more home games will be played, and one more road contest. As far as the neutral games go, that remains to be seen. There will be one; however, there could be as many as nine if everything went in the favor of the Vulcans.
  • In these games, the Vulcans have posted a record of 3-2 at home, 8-6-1 on the road, and 1-2 on neutral ice.
