Kalamazoo, MI- Numbers don’t lie and 55-22 or 42-11 for that matter tell the tale of the play. Northern Michigan had their way offensively outshooting the Vulcans resulting in more opportunities to record their 5-1 victory.
In their opening game the Vulcans found themselves going up against the third seed from the West and an offensive juggernaut. After being outshot 20-6 in the first period the Vulcans managed to take a 1-1 tie into the intermission thanks to a power play goal off the stick of Kelsey DeNardo.
Northern Michigan scored the games next four goals between the second and third periods never giving the Vulcans much of a chance. Maria Sciacca managed to make 50 saves in the contest.
Moving on to day two the Vulcans have a date with CHE rival West Chester University in what will be a must win for the Vulcans if they hope to advance out of pool play. In it’s opening contest West Chester fell to Rainy River Community College 6-0. Puck drop on Thursday is again set for 12:00 pm.
