California, PA- Short of picking up the victory, the Vulcans did everything in their power to make a statement in the seasons opening weekend.  After finding themselves down 2-0 early in the contest, the Vulcans forged on to eventually tie the game up before ultimately falling short in overtime, 4-3.

Two early first period goals gave St. Vincent a two goal advantage as doubt began to set in for the Vulcans.  As the first period was coming to a close the Vulcans cut into the deficit with a goal from Brady Parkinson.  That momentum carried its way over to the second period as Justin Smith tied up the game just minutes into the period.  St. Vincent would take back the lead halfway through the contest before Smith added his second goal of the period.

The game remained tied through the final 28 minutes as the teams headed to the overtime period.  Unfortunately for the Vulcans St. Vincent’s overtime rush proved to be too much as they scored with 1:36 left on the clock to hand the Vulcans their first defeat of the season.  Offensively the Vulcans managed to outshoot the Polar Bearcats 32-25 in the contest with Josh Bacon stopping 21 shots on the evening.

The Vulcans will be in action again on Friday October 20th when they travel to face the University of Pitt-Greensburg.
