Vulcans Win 5th Straight CHE Title: 12th in 13 Years

California, PA-  On Saturday the Vulcans defeated IUP 5-1 at the War Memorial to cap off  their fifth straight CHE title and 12th in 13 years.    Earlier on Friday the Vulcans defeated UPJ 6-3 to earn their spot in their 13th straight CHE title game.

Men Host UPJ in Final Regular Season Contest

THE GAME:  #13 California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans (13-9-1, 6-3-1) at #19 University of Pitt-Johnstown Ice Cats (12-13, 7-3)

DATE/LOCATION/TIME:  March 1, 2019 ~ Rostraver Ice Garden ~ 9:45 p.m. 

REGULAR SEASON FINALE: Friday’s contest marks the final game of the regular season for the Vulcans as they look pick up their 14thvictory of the season and keep away from falling into the double digit loss column.  The Vulcans will end the 2018-19 campaign with their most losses since the 2003-04 season when the team finished 13-15-3.

CONGRATULATIONS:  Last week’s contest against Robert Morris saw a few milestones for the Vulcans.  The 10-3 victory over the Colonials did not seem large as it relates to this season but that victory served as Head Coach Jason Greenway’s 50thcareer victory with the Vulcans.  Helping Coach Greenway earn that victory was goaltender John Popielarcheck who earned his first career victory stopping 36 of 39 shots faced. Additionally forward Jared Taylor recorded his first career goal late in the third period of the contest.  

THANK YOU SENIORS:  The Vulcans would like to thank all five seniors for their accomplishments both athletically and academically while at Cal U.  Each of them have had a lasting impact on this organization and will leave the club with signature moments for the university and fans to remember for years to come. Everyone at Cal hockey wishes you all nothing but the best in your future endeavors and hope to see you back in the future.  Thank you Patrick Huver, Chris Siak, Mike Fahringer, Chaz Henry and Ryan Lloyd.

VULCANS LEADING SCORERS:  Through 22 reported games, the Vulcans are led by Alex Worgo with 18 goals and 11 assists for 29 points, Chris Siak with 18 goals and 8 assists for 26 points and David DalCortivo with five goals and 19 assists for 24 points.  In net the Vulcans are led by Ryan Lloyd who is 5-5-1 with a 4.32 GAA and a .879 save percentage.

ICE CATS LEADING SCORERES:  The Ice Cats are led by Emery Anden with 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points, Kyle Eckenrod with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points and Joe Phillips with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points.  In net the Ice Cats are led by James Borriello who is 12-13 with a 3.58 GAA and a .896 save percentage.

Alumni Game 2019 Rosters Are Set

California, PA - The draft is complete and the rosters are set for the annual alumni game this Saturday!  The puck is set to drop at 5:15 pm at the Rostraver Ice Garden with the women hosting Oswego State following at approximately 7:00 pm.  Admission for the game is $3 and free for children under 5.
